Samuel A. Epps IV has three decades of experience in labor, government, advocacy, and electoral politics. Mr. Epps is currently the President of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO which is made up of 150 local affiliated unions representing more than 150,000 working people in Washington, DC and Maryland’s Montgomery, Prince George’s, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's counties. He serves as the Political Director for UNITE HERE Local 25.
Prior to working for the AFL-CIO, Mr. Epps worked for the United Way and served in leadership roles in political campaigns for U.S. Senate, governor, House of Representatives and state and local elected positions. Among others, he has worked on campaigns for President Barack Obama, Sen. Carol Mosely Braun, Gov. John Corzine, Gov. Martin O’Malley, and Rep. Donna Edwards.
Mr. Epps is a member of the MD/DC State Federation Executive Committee and UNITE HERE Local 25 Executive Committee as First Vice President. He has served as Treasurer of the Metropolitan Washington AFL-CIO, Co-Chair of the Metropolitan Washington AFL-CIO COPE Committee for Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties, a member of the Virginia AFL-CIO Political Steering Committee, and a past member of the Executive Committee of DC Jobs with Justice. Mr. Epps is past President of the Trustee Ministry of the First Baptist Church, Inc. of North Brentwood, MD.
Mr. Epps is a native of Erie, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Penn State University. He is an appointee of the Governor of Maryland.
