The Special Operations Command is responsible for providing specialized services in response to special tactical situations, taxi enforcement, and motorcycle operations to both Ronald Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport.

The Special Operations Division also includes the Investigative Services Section which has the responsibility to provide investigative functions for the Police Department. Detectives who are assigned to the Investigative Section are also assigned to federal, state or local partner agencies to include DEA, FBI, and Customs Task Forces.
