DCPS Arts is proud to feature artworks from a group of young artists representing various DCPS elementary, middle, and high schools. This exhibition explores students' expressions of the present and visions for the future, utilizing contemporary techniques such as digital painting, photo-collage, text-to-image software, and digital photography.

DCPS Arts (part of the District of Columbia Public Schools, Office of Teaching and Learning) works closely with all DC Public School teachers, staff, and principals in the area of visual art, music, and performing art programs – providing teacher support, advocacy, professional development and community partnership opportunities.

The Swanson Visual Art Department provides an engaging learning environment where all students can explore and grow as artists. Students develop their conceptual and technical skills while creativity and craftsmanship are emphasized. Visual Arts I and II are an art-based inquiry course in which students make art as part of their exploration of ideas and phenomena to ensure students produce personal, meaningful works of art as they develop their portfolio. Process-focused experiences using design thinking and Project Zero's Studio Habits of Mind highlight the importance of life skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Differentiation is also a focus of the Art Department by offering personalized learning based on the students’ interest, ability, and readiness.

McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) is one of the mid-Atlantic region's most respected visual arts organizations. MPA provides high-quality art exhibitions showcasing the work of established and emerging artists, educational programs, art classes, MPAartfest, summer art camps, and ArtReach, an award-winning outreach program serving students in grades K-12, seniors, and individuals with special needs.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), an Affiliate Partner of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, presents the Regional Scholastic Art Award program each year for the Fairfax Art Region serving public, private, parochial, and home school students age 13 to graduating seniors in Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and Alexandria City. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards offer early recognition of creative teenagers and scholarship opportunities for graduating high-school seniors. The Awards are national in scope and administered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.
