The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is celebrating Black History Month—and launching a new performing arts program at Washington’s airports—with a series of lunchtime concerts featuring local African-American artists.

As part of the new performing arts program, the Airports Authority will bring musicians, singers, dancers and other artists to Washington’s airports to provide entertainment for our passengers to enjoy throughout the year. Here is the schedule of our February performances:

Reagan National Airport
All performances are from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. with a break from 12:45 to 1 p.m.

                Performing near the Cibo restaurant in Terminal B

Dulles International Airport
All performances are from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. with a break from 12:45 to 1 p.m.

The Dulles concerts are on the east end of the Main Terminal near the entrance to security screening.

Christylez Bacon (pronounced: chris-styles) is a Grammy-nominated progressive hip-hop artist and multi-instrumentalist from Southeast, Washington, DC. As a performer, Christylez multi-tasks between various instruments such as the West African djembe drum, acoustic guitar, and the human beat-box (oral percussion), all while continuing the oral tradition of storytelling through his lyrics.

Chelsey Green, a native of Houston, Texas, was born into a family of musicians and started her performance career as a violinist at age 5. Currently a doctoral student at the University of Maryland, Chelsey Green was recently named a 2010-2011 Strathmore Music Center Artist-In-Residence. Her full performance ensemble, The Green Project, perform often at venues throughout the metropolitan Washington area.

Teri S is a Washington, DC native who began performing at age 7. Describing her sound as “a toss between Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle,” Teri S has performed at The Warner Theater, The Kennedy Center and at the White House. She even won over the intense crowd of the Apollo Theater Live in New York. Teri S is accompanied by an all-star 5-piece band and background vocalists.
