The Honor Guard is a ceremonial unit within the Police Department. The Honor Guard is composed of carefully selected officers chosen for their physical ability and dexterity. These officers exemplify and maintain exceptionally high standards of appearance and conduct and show aptitude for ceremonial duty.
A primary role of the Honor Guard is to provide honors for fallen comrades. The Honor Guard also serves as the "guardians of the colors" by displaying and escorting the national flag on ceremonial occasions at special functions.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department Honor Guard serves as ambassadors to the public, presenting a positive image of their service, and assisting with the recruiting effort.
