Fares starting as low as $69 each way launching in April
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) announced Tuesday that Sun Country Airlines will offer nonstop flights to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) beginning on April 25, 2019. The route will operate four times per week initially before transitioning to a daily flight on June 10, 2019. Sun Country will provide travelers with a low-cost fare option between the U.S. Capital Region and the Twin Cities, one of the largest and fastest growing metropolitan regions in the United States.
“Washington Dulles International Airport is pleased to welcome Sun Country’s low-cost service, which offers passengers heading to and from the U.S. Capital Region a new choice for their travels,” said Jerome L. Davis, executive vice president and chief revenue officer for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. “We look forward to supporting Sun Country’s growth as we continue to solidify Dulles International’s strong position as the Washington region’s premier gateway to destinations across the United States and the world.”
Today’s announcement is the latest new airline service route launching at Dulles International in 2019, which saw domestic passenger activity increase by nearly 6-percent in the first 10 months of 2018. Sun Country joins six other airlines offering 251 daily flights to 83 nonstop domestic destinations from Dulles International, and 32 airlines offering 62 daily flights to 55 nonstop international destinations.
“We’re excited to add Dulles International Airport to our growing network and to bring more visitors to the D.C. area,” said Sun Country Chief Commercial Officer Ted Botimer. “Our focus on low fares and great customer service will be a great fit in this market, and we look forward to our continued partnership with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.”
The new route came as part of Sun Country’s historic route announcement earlier today, with their expansion to 19 new seasonal nonstop routes and seven new airports.
“The addition of Sun Country gives our customers additional choices for quality, low-cost air services from Dulles International,” said Yil Surehan, vice president for airline business development at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
