More Than 20 Additional New Stores and Restaurants Coming to Washington’s Airports, Including Major Redesign of Food Courts at Reagan National’s B/C Gates

With nearly 60 new stores and restaurants already open or under construction, Washington’s airports announced more than 20 additional new food and restaurant options coming in Summer 2015. The new offerings, featuring expanded dining and shopping at both Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, are headlined by the addition of well-known local restaurants and the complete redesign of post-security food courts near the gates in Reagan National’s Terminals B and C, providing a more cohesive, integrated space with upgraded seating and power outlets for travelers.

The third wave of new food and retail is part of a comprehensive, near-complete overhaul of all food, beverage and retail offerings at the two airports, the first two phases of which has already attracted well-known brands like Ben’s Chili Bowl, Legal Sea Foods, Lacoste and Spanx to Reagan National andBurberry, Estee Lauder/M.A.C., Chef Geoff’s and Bar Symon to Dulles International.

“From the beginning of the Concessions Redevelopment Program at Reagan and Dulles, the Airports Authority has been committed to enhancing the passenger experience at both Reagan and Dulles,” said Steve Baker, Vice President of Business Administration. “Whether passengers are looking to recharge themselves or their cell phones, we are providing bright, enticing opportunities with exceptional service for our customers’ shopping and dining pleasure.”

At Washington Dulles, where work to bring powerhouse retail like Michael Kors, L’Occitane, Coach andBurberry is ongoing, new additions like Vineyard Vines clothier, will join remodeled shops like Solstice Sunglasses and InMotion Entertainment, enhancing the growing list of shopping options. Bracket Room, an upscale sports lounge originally founded in Arlington in 2012, Potbelly Sandwich Works and American Tap Room will provide additional dining choices for passengers.

The new of wave of redevelopment at Reagan National will bring even more dining options from local and nationally recognized chefs. Celebrated chef Mike Isabella will open Kapnos Taverna, a local D.C. concept serving Mediterranean and Greek favorites. Isabella’s restaurant will be joined by local favorites El Centro D.F., featuring traditional Mexican comfort fare from chef Richard Sandoval; Lebanese Taverna Cafe, which is celebrating 35 years serving authentic Middle Eastern cuisine in the greater D.C. area; Cava Grill, a D.C. original featuring Mediterranean and Greek-inspired fast-casual fare; and Reagan National’s own location of Bracket Room, an Arlington, Virginia-based sports bar and grill.

In addition to the enhanced dining, Reagan National’s food courts in Terminals B and C will get a significant overhaul. The middle of each grouping of gates, which currently include small cart-based retail and food options, will be completely redesigned into integrated dining, shopping and quick-bite venues. The new venues, similar to the larger redevelopment underway in Terminal A of Reagan National, will enhance the flow and cohesiveness of the gate area, while providing upgraded seating and recharging options for travelers.

Restaurants and stores in the first wave of the concessions redevelopment at Reagan National and Dulles International opened in spring and summer of 2014. The second wave is currently in progress with openings anticipated this fall and winter.

The Airports Authority maintains web pages with the latest list of new and upcoming food and retail offerings under construction at Reagan National and Dulles International. The web pages will be regularly updated as construction of new shops and restaurants continues at both airports.

When the Airports Authority’s food and retail redevelopment program is completed, 85 percent of all of the concessions will be converted or reconstructed. Construction will be carefully managed to have the least impact on airport passengers. As more than 150 new food and retail concepts are constructed, the Airports Authority will add to the number and location of basic passenger services such as electrical outlets and ATMs.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia, manages and operates Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Virginia. No tax dollars are used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenues, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenues from concessions. The Silver Line construction is funded by a combination of toll-road revenues, airport contributions and federal, state and local government appropriations. The Airports Authority is led by a 17-member board of directors, appointed by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, the mayor of Washington, D.C., and the president of the United States, and generates more than 387,000 jobs and 4.5 percent of GDP in the National Capital Region.
