In anticipation of increased numbers of passengers traveling through U.S. airports during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, and as air carriers begin to restore air service on domestic and international routes this summer, teams at Reagan National (DCA) and Dulles International (IAD) airports have implemented a number of enhanced health and safety measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Following guidance provided by public health experts at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Virginia Department of Health, the airports are focused on helping passengers and employees remain safe and healthy.

Face coverings are required for everyone – passengers and employees – inside the airports in accordance with Gov. Ralph Northam’s May 29 state mandate.

If a passenger does not have a mask, they are available:

• at some airline ticket counters
• from any Airports Authority Police officer
• from Travelers Aid Information Booths
• from any newsstand, where disposable and cloth masks may be purchased.

In addition to face coverings reminders, other health and safety measures customers may encounter include:

• Plexiglass barriers at key customer touch points, including airline ticket counters, customer service counters and boarding podiums, TSA screening stations and at interaction points in concessions.
• More than 200 hand sanitizer stations and reminders of the importanct of hand washing throughout the airports.
• Signage reminding customers and employees of the CDC's recommended healthy habits to limit the spread of COVID-19, as well as messaging for social distancing practices. 

Additionally, both airports have increased the sanitization frequency of high-touch areas, as well as the AeroTrain and Mobile Lounges at Dulles International.

Food and beverage options, and some retail concessions, are open in the airports’ main terminals and in all concourses post-security.
