Mike Stewart has been named vice president for airline business development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. He will succeed Mark Treadaway, who previously announced his intention to retire from the Airports Authority as vice president for air service planning and development after a transition is completed. The title of the position has been updated to reflect the changing aviation business landscape.
Stewart has held several key positions at the Airports Authority and in the aviation industry, including Dulles International Airport’s manager of airport administration, the Airports Authority’s manager of airline affairs, general manager of the Dulles Jet Center, director of corporate real estate and airport affairs for Independence Air and management positions with US Airways and Piedmont Airlines. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
Stewart will report to Jerome L. Davis, executive vice president and chief revenue officer. Davis said, “Mike Stewart has extensive knowledge of the aviation business, knowledge of our airports, and a strong record of success. Under his leadership, the Airports Authority will focus even more intensely on growing airline service for our customers at Reagan National and Dulles International.” Stewart will have direct responsibility for cargo, airline business development and display advertising.
Treadaway, who has served the Airports Authority for 24 years, has not yet set a retirement date. During his tenure, Treadaway played a critical role in the expansion of international air service and cargo opportunities at Dulles in addition to maintaining competitive domestic service at both Reagan and Dulles airports. “Mark’s leadership has been responsible for helping make Dulles a major gateway for international travel,” Davis said. During a transition period, Treadaway and Stewart will work together to build on that record of success going forward.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia, manages and operates Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Va. No tax dollars are used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenues, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenues from concessions. The Airports Authority generates more than 387,000 jobs in the National Capital Region.
