After an extensive public search, the board of directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, on May 15, confirmed Goutam Kundu as the new the vice president for technology and Anthony Vegliante as the new vice president for human resources.

“Goutam and Anthony are tremendous additions to the Airports Authority,” said Chairman Michael Curto. “Their backgrounds, experience and proven leadership in their respective fields will help build and enhance the Airports Authority as we work to continue to provide world-class services and customer service to the National Capital Region.”

Kundu is a seasoned professional with broad expertise in information technology. He has successfully managed large scale IT operations, helping organizations better interact with their customer base and innovating business operations. In his new role at the Airports Authority, he will work to enhance and further advance the Airports Authority technology infrastructure, operations and functionality.

His work experience includes holding executive positions at the U.S. Mint; NIIT Technologies, a global IT service and software company; the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission and Farm Bureau Insurance. Kundu earned his bachelor’s degrees in computer science and technology from the University of Calcutta.  He earned his master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University Kelley School of Business.

Vegliante has more than three decades experience in human resources, including managing human resources for more than 600,000 employees and participating in 20 national labor negotiations at the U.S. Postal Service, the second largest employer in the country.  In 2010, he was elected a fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources, the first public sector executive to receive the honor.  He is generally regarded as the architect of the Postal Service’s highly successful pay-for-performance program for all employees not covered by collective bargaining. In his new role, he will develop and improve the Airports Authority’s human resources programs, while working to attract and retain highly qualified staff.

Vegliante joined the Postal Service in 1978 and quickly transitioned into human resources. Vegliante earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island.  He is a graduate of the University of Southern California Executive Management Program and has a master’s of science in business education from the University of Bridgeport and a master’s of science in industrial relations from the University of New Haven.

Vegliante will begin work at the Airports Authority May 20, and Kundu will begin June 3.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority was established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia to manage and operate Washington’s Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Va. No taxpayer money is used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenues, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenues from concessions. The Silver Line construction is funded by a combination of toll-road revenues, airport contributions and federal, state and local government appropriations. The Airports Authority is led by a 17-member board of directors appointed by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, the mayor of Washington, D.C., and the president of the United States.
