Free Rides To and From Dulles Airport July 26 and 27 on the Silver Line Express Bus
Marketing Effort Celebrates One Year of Direct Service from Metro’s Silver Line to the Airport
On July 26 and 27, Washington Dulles International Airport will offer free rides on its Silver Line Express bus in celebration of one year of easy, direct service between the airport and the Silver Line Metrorail, which opened July 26, 2014.
The Silver Line Express bus has made Dulles International closer and the passenger experience better than ever. Passengers can ride comfortably between the airport and Metrorail’s Wiehle-Reston East station with amenities onboard that include free Wi-Fi, spacious luggage storage and front door service at the airport. With the ride costing just $5, it means travelers can get to Dulles International for less than $11 from anywhere on the Metrorail system
“This special promotion of free rides marks one year of enhanced passenger experience for travelers to and from Dulles International on the Silver Line Express bus,” said Airports Authority Deputy Vice President for Planning and Revenue Development Chryssa Westerlund. “Dulles International is the region’s gateway to the world, and we are marketing the Silver Line Express bus to make sure travelers are aware that, with this service, the world is easier to get to than ever.”
More than 272,000 riders have used the bus service since it began service on July 26, 2014, an 80 percent increase over previous service between the airport and the East Falls Church Metro Station.
The Silver Line Express operates every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 20 minutes off-peak between Washington Dulles International Airport and the Fairfax County parking garage at the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, established in 1987 by the governments of Virginia and the District of Columbia, manages and operates Washington’s Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports, which together serve more than 40 million passengers a year. The Airports Authority also operates and maintains the Dulles Airport Access Road and the Dulles Toll Road and manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail system into Loudoun County, Va. No tax dollars are used to operate the toll road, which is funded by toll revenues, or the airports, which are funded through aircraft landing fees, rents and revenues from concessions. The Silver Line construction is funded by a combination of toll-road revenues, airport contributions and federal, state and local government appropriations. The Airports Authority is led by a 17-member board of directors appointed by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, the mayor of Washington, D.C., and the president of the United States.
