The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will debut two new exhibits at Dulles International and Reagan National airports as part of its Arts Program. The exhibit “America!” focuses on panoramic landscape scenes from around the nation taken by members of the American Society of Photographers. “America!” will be on display until April 30, 2013, in the Gateway Gallery at Washington Dulles International Airport (in the connecting walkway between the AeroTrain C-Gates and the C Concourse).
“The stunning display of photographic images will surely enhance the beauty of Dulles International while showcasing the amazing talent of our 650 members,” said Jon Allyn, Executive Director of the American Society of Photographers. “The passengers viewing the exhibit will experience the beauty and diversity of America as seen through the eyes of these artists.”
Founded in 1937, the American Society of Photographers is a professional membership organization promoting education, partnership and viewing photography as an art as well as a science.
“Art + Craft: Celebrating the Creativity of Latin America” provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Cultural Center takes a unique look at the materials used in creating artwork from the regions and complements them with works by more recognized artists. This exhibit will run until April 30, 2013, in the Gallery Walk in Reagan National Airport’s Terminal A (near the underground walkway that connects with the parking garage).
“This exhibition constitutes a landmark contribution by the IDB to the Washington, D.C., cultural life. It not only shares the heritage of 17 nations but also highlights the creative talent of the Latin American artisans, transforming an airport into a folk art museum,” said Ivan Duque, IDB Chief of Cultural, Solidarity and Creativity Division.
The IDB is an international financial institution with a cultural center devoted to promoting entrepreneurship of Latin American and Caribbean heritage. Besides curating the Bank’s art collection, the cultural center highlights cultural development, art exhibits, concerts, and book and film presentations.
The new displays will enhance the international and national airports and add to the enjoyment of millions of passengers as they travel through the airport hubs.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, through its Arts Program, offers diverse regional, national and international rotating exhibits, live performances and public art displays that celebrate the beauty and creativity of the National Capital Region.
