- Background:
- Washington Dulles International Airport (Dulles) is a major hub for domestic and international air travel with a mixture of legacy and low fare carriers that provide air service throughout the world. The Airports Authority has invested in Dulles’ infrastructure through a major capital program, that included Terminal expansion, a new air traffic control tower, parking garages, expanded Concourses, a new fourth runway, an AeroTrain people mover system, an expanded International Arrivals Building as well as other support facilities. The airport is connected to the region’s highway system via an Authority-operated 16-mile Airport Access Highway. A 23-mile expansion of the region's Metrorail system that includes a station at Dulles is currently under construction. With currents loads at approximately 34 megawatts (MW), the Airports Authority is exploring options to reduce Dulles’ overall energy cost. The Airports Authority has an interest to understand the feasibility of how using Solar Energy through a PPA can significantly reduce and control Dulles’ overall energy cost through renewable energy.
- Objective:
- The Airports Authority hereby invites interested parties to respond to this RFI regarding a prospective future solicitation to provide a photovoltaic (PV) system through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The purpose of this RFI is to gain information on current industry practices that will meet the Airports Authority's requirements for implementation and sustainment of a PV system ranging from 15-20 MWs. We are seeking qualified expertise and perspective demonstrating the successful performance of feasibility studies, development of design documents, construction and operation of a PV system at other airports and or facilities similar in size and complexity.
