Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority

More Parking is Coming to Reagan National

Due to the demand for parking at Reagan National, we are adding over 1400 spaces to the airport's existing parking garages by building an additional level.  The project will be built in phases in order to minimize the temporary loss of parking space while construction is underway.  This web page will be updated with new information as the project moves forward.

Current Project-Related Construction Alerts

PARKING GARAGE A: VERY LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE DURING EXPANSION WORK

The expansion of Garage A will add 581 spaces on a new, fifth level when complete (see right portion of the diagram above).  To accomodate construction work, the entire top level will be closed until the expansion is completed.  Only 277 spaces in Garage A will be available for public parking.

  • Currently in Garage A, public parking is only available on level 1.
  • If signage at the Garage A entrance indicates "FULL," please proceed to Garage B/C.  Over 400 new spaces have opened on a new, fifth level there.
  • In the event Garage B/C is full, proceed to Economy parking.  The Airports Authority has an additional lot for overflow parking in the event all regular lots are full.  Click here to view real-time parking availability information.
  • Rental Car operations will continue as normal in Garage A throughout the parking expansion project.

GARAGE B/C: FINAL PHASE OF EXPANSION IS NOW UNDERWAY

A 420-space parking area on level 4 of the garage (shown in yellow) is closed so the final phase of the garage expansion can proceed. Over 400 NEW spaces of expanded parking (shown in blue) are now open on the new, fifth level.

When this phase is complete, Garage B/C will have a net gain of 843 spaces on a new, fifth level.

During construction, please use caution and watch for detours which will be noted by signage.

AIRPORT TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGES ARE NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE DURATION OF THE PROJECT:

  • The Airport Entrance Roadway from the southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway will be reduced to one lane.  There is a second entrance ramp to the airport about a half mile further along the southbound Parkway.  The second entrance ramp bypasses much of the construction area.
  • The left lane of this roadway is closed (2 thru lanes are open) as you pass the parking garage.
  • The "Return to Airport" ramp exiting Garage B/C is now rerouted.  Follow posted signs.

The project is now underway.  Here is a description of the project's initial phases:

DCA_garage_chkbox.jpg Set up construction equipment near the parking garage.  Vehicle traffic flow will be maintained but some lanes will be closed or realigned along the roadways adjacent to the garages.
DCA_garage_chkbox.jpg Phase 1: Construct the first section of the new, top level of parking on Garage B/C which adds 72 new spaces to the total capacity of the Garage. Completed September 2008
DCA_garage_chkbox.jpg Phase 2: Construct the second section of the new, top level of parking on Garage B/C which adds 260  new spaces to the total capacity of the Garage. Completed February 2009
