Upcoming Opportunities - Major Construction and Design

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority anticipates issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or Requests for Qualifications Information (RFQIs) for the following major Construction and Design projects throughout 2009. Please note that this is not necessarily a complete list of projects that will be issued during this time period, and all dates are estimates and subject to change at any time.

Third Quarter 2009

A380 Gate Modifications, Dulles Airport
- Description: The contractor shall furnish all necessary labor, materials, tools, equipment and supervision to construct modifications to Concourse B at Washington Dulles International Airport to accommodate the new A380 aircraft. The work consists of the construction of an approximately 800 square foot structure to provide ADA compliant service to the upper deck on an Airbus A380 aircraft. Construction of the structure will require minor demolition of the existing exterior storefront system on the existing Concourse B building. Mechanical and electrical systems will be extended from the existing building. Work also includes modification to the existing hydrant fuel system including the installation of one new hydrant fuel pit and new concrete paving where the existing pavement was removed.

Fourth Runway Deicing Facility, Phase I, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will construct one 100,000 gallon potassium acetate tank with two bottom truck loading stations beneath a canopy.  Work also includes a bituminous pavement driveway and electrical work.

Main Terminal MUFIDS Upgrades, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will upgrade to the existing Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) at the baggage claim level of the Main Terminal to support the new Automated People Mover (APM) Station traffic flow. Work will include equipment, casework, electrical and special system installations at specified locations.

Telecom Room HVAC Upgrades, Dulles Airport
- Description: This project will enhance the existing HVAC system and increase cooling capacity in the Telecom Room at the Main Terminal. Work will include extension of the existing HVAC system, piping/ductwork, unit installation and controls.

Fourth Quarter 2009

Runway 1-19 Safety Area Improvements and Hold Apron 1 Expansion, National Airport
- Description: This project will extend Runway 1 approximately 300 feet to the south, extending parallel Taxiway J to the new threshold, relocating the existing airport perimeter road, relocating the ILS glide slope and modifying the ALSF-2 system. The project will expand Hold Apron 1 approximately 250 feet to the south and 200 feet to the west. Work includes new PCC pavement, installation of associated drainage, signage and markings.
