Tobar Construction, Inc. was incorporated in November, 1996. The company started with 7 employees and two Pick-up trucks. Our first job was installing Curb and Gutter in a retail store parking lot. Over the next few years the company grew, winning building and site concrete packages for retail and commercial buildings, parking garages and more. In 1999 we applied for and were granted a MDOT Minority Business Enterprise status. The certification opened doors to new opportunities, giving us a chance to work with some of the best General Contractors in the area.
Over the next twenty years the company grew at a slow and steady pace, gaining experience and a great reputation within the concrete construction industry. We bought the property we currently call home, grew our workforce to over 50 workers, and continued to expand and upgrade our trucks and construction equipment.
In May of 2014 we were awarded the MGM National Harbor Foundation Package, the largest contract in the history of the company. We started the project with 2 crews and 4 pieces of equipment. As the jobsite opened up, we increased our work force to over 50 employees and over 20 pieces of equipment. We worked through a very harsh winter, always maintaining the schedule. Over the course of 12 months, we excavated and hauled off site over 4,000 truckloads of dirt, placed over 1,000 tons of rebar and installed over 25,000 cubic yards of concrete.
The success of that project opened the doors to more major projects in the area. Recently we have undertaken a variety of projects, including several projects at BWI Airport, the site concrete package for the Silver Line Phase 1, the Ft. Meade Shopping Center, the Ft. Belvoir Commissary, the Event Center at UMBC and the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Innovation.
